Former Senator Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) talks about the U.S. response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria

As President Obama addresses the nation regarding the on-going debate over the proper U.S response following the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government of  Bashar al Asaad, WVPE's Morning Edition host Michael Linville had the chance to visit with former Indiana Republican Senator Richard Lugar, who served in the U.S. Senate from 1977 to 2013, where he was a member of the Foreign Relation Committee.

During his tenure in Congress much of Lugar's work focused on the dismantling of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons around the world.

Lugar was asked why he's been stating publically that he supports the use of military force in Syria to punish the Assad regime.
