Downtown Soul Season Three continues with Elkhart's Sensei Jones and the very last show of the year by South Bend's The B.E.A.T.! Cover: $8 Parnell “Sensei” Jones is a singer, songwriter, rapper and musical activist whose love for music spans many genres. Most recently, the husband and father of two opened for Nelly, Fat Joe and The Real Kid Capri after winning U93 :: Today's Best Music's Party in the Park competition. Jones grew up in church in South Bend and Elkhart where he still sings every Sunday. The B.E.A.T. is an experimental hip hop trio comprised of Billy East (emcee), Elroy (guitars/madness), and Art-amiss (drumset). With musical influences like Minus the Bear and Soulive and lyrical nods from all over the underground hip-hop map, from NAS to MF Doom to Lupe Fiasco, this band creates live loops and effects on the spot that typically require studio manipulation. Their sound is in a league of its own. RESIDENT ARTISTS: BRANDON DROPTINY, JEANINE EUBANKS & REQUIYAH JOHNSON Brandon Droptiny is a self taught acrylic artist who strives to create good artwork that tells great stories. All proceeds from the sale of his art goes to his Tiny Drops of Change organization to help meet a variety of needs in the world. Jeannine Eubanks will showcase her photography and mixed media creations. Finally, Requiyah Johnson will feature her colorful paintings of landscapes and other scenes. PLAY IT AGAIN, DJ! Mix-master DJ Nikki Nyce (Lashawndra 'Nikki' Gates) will be at it again for our fourth show of the season! Born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, the turntablist specializes in hip hop and R&B and is heavily influenced by Kid Capri and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Come on out to see what she has up her sleeve.
