The Best Week Ever festival kicks off today in South Bend with Memorial Day events. There are plenty to do this week all over the city.
Last year for the first annual Best Week Ever there were a lot of complaints about the events being too spread out. So this year organizers have each day’s events centered in one neighborhood.
Across the week there will be art festivals, food, live music, themed parties, kids activities, rafting on the East Race and an attempt to break a world record.
Spokesperson Jackie Appleman says it’s all in the name of bringing the community together to discover what’s great about South Bend.
“South Bend has a lot of great things about it. It’s got a lot of great industries. It’s got a lot of great neighborhoods. It’s got a lot of great people. And I think as a community we just don’t take enough time to really celebrate what we have.”
A full list of all the activities is here.
The week culminates on Friday night with two music festivals downtown. WVPE will be behind the Century Center for Meet Me on the Island starting at 5:30. And then a big fireworks display at 10.
