Cultivate Looks To Year Two, Additional Partnerships

Cultivate Culinary in South Bend is moving into a second year of rescuing food and providing meals with a few new partnerships.

Cultivate is a culinary school and catering company but most of its food is rescued from businesses that didn’t serve it and is given to people in need.

Last fall they started a partnership with Notre Dame to rescue it’s unused food from sports games and other campus events. That partnership starts its second year as football season approaches. Cultivate also recently added Four Winds Casino as a rescue client.

Jim Conklin is co-founder and board president at Cultivate.

“We’re super excited about growing, kind of creating a model that we like to think could be replicated, especially in towns with universities and we’re just constantly working and tweaking on how to do this better.”

Conklin said as the program expands they’re constantly looking for more volunteers. They also are looking for a refrigerator truck and a bigger location.

He said they’re also working to expand rescue operations and food deliveries across Michiana, instead of sticking just with St. Joseph County, Indiana.
