Hackett Concedes Race, Continues To Support Democratic Agenda

Peter Ringenberg

Pat Hackett fell second in the polls and conceded to Mel Hall yesterday. She called to congratulate him on his victory before addressing her supporters at Bruno’s Original Pizza in South Bend.

Some supporters shed tears as Hackett thanked them, and there were audible gasps when she said she called Hall.

Hackett said she will continue to support the Democratic Party and its agenda. While she said she will take time to review her campaign strategy, she said she has no specific plans to run for office in the near future.

“I don’t have any specific plans at this point," she said, "I think I just need to, as I said, take in the consequences of what transpired here this evening and in the campaign and go through a good process to sort how I might best use my talents to work for the values and the purposes that we articulated in the campaign.”

Though she fell short of the nomination, Hackett said the campaign experience inspired her to continue her work toward the core principles and slogan of her campaign, “Justice and dignity for all.”
