Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense Join In National Protests

Wear Orange protests occurred across the country this weekend to bring awareness to gun safety. The South Bend Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America protested in orange, Saturday in Mishawaka.

Liz Digitale-Anderson says the event had been planned for months, before the recent shooting at the Noblesville Middle School last week made national headlines. She says though events like that bring national attention to gun violence, locally, it’s an issue that’s becoming more and more common, and one she wants to help change. Digitale-Anderson says the number of gun-related injuries in the area also motivate her to get the gun conversation going in the area.

But she says that’s not always easy because the debate on gun issues has become so polarizing. She says the aim of the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense is to bring attention to gun safety and responsible gun ownership. The group even raffled off a gun lock as one of the day’s activities.

“We are definitely a bi-partisan movement,” Digitale-Anderson said, “We support the second amendment, we are not trying to take away anybody’s guns. We’re saying, it’s absolutely a right, but it’s also a responsibility.”

The South Bend Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense will host speakers through the summer who will focus on topics related to gun safety.
