NIPSCO Gas Rate Hike Approved

The state of Indiana and NIPSCO have come to an agreement on a rate hike for natural gas customers.

NIPSCO gas customers will see monthly rates go up by about $8. In addition the base rate will go up $3. So consumers should expect to pay about $11 more a month on their bills.

The money will be spent upgrading natural gas infrastructure.

Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor Spokesperson Anthony Swinger said the agreement is a good compromise.

“We’ve reached a fair resolution that mitigates the rate increase as much as possible while making sure the utility has the money that it will need to provide safe reliable service throughout Northern Indiana.”

NIPSCO said in statement they expect to remain among the lowest cost providers in the state.

The changes will be effective October first and rates will increase gradually over the next two years.
