Indiana State Police

One student is dead after a Eastern Pulaski Community Schools bus was struck by a flatbed truck this morning on U.S. 31 near Argos.

The crash happened at a railroad crossing on Northbound US-31 where the bus was required to stop. The driver of the truck, 26-year-old Perry Tylor, struck the bus from behind as it was accelerating away from the tracks.

There were 38 eighth grade students and three adult chaperones on the bus.

One student, who’s name has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene. Another, 14-year-old Zane Bell, was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life threatening injuries. The other students were taken to a hospital in Plymouth to be reunited with their families.

The students were on their way to see a Christmas Musical in Warsaw at the time of the crash.

Toxicology reports on the drivers are pending. Weather is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
