Trump Talks Up Indiana Republicans at Elkhart Rally

Jennifer Weingart

President Donald Trump gave a few minutes at the podium to GOP U.S. Senate candidate Mike Braun at his rally in Elkhart last night.

Primary winner Braun tied himself to the president at the rally, as he did during the race.

President Donald Trump touched on the rallying points he’s had since he announced his candidacy: border security, repealing Obamacare, and the second amendment. But his big message of the night was electing more Republicans to Congress.

He brought GOP U.S. Senate candidate Mike Braun to the stage. Braun will race against Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly in November. When Braun spoke, he compared himself to the president.

“I can guarantee you that when I get there, I’m doing it for the right reasons. I’m a businessman and an outsider just like our President.”

In his own time at the podium, Trump underlined the importance of the senate race several times.

“You can send us a really incredible swamp person back to the senate, like Joe Donnelly, or you can send us Republicans like Mike Braun to drain the swamp.”

And this tactic may work.

Michelle Quinn from South Bend says, while she didn’t vote for Braun in the Primaries, she’ll support him in the general.

“Trump’s gonna throw his support behind Mike Braun, and I think that’s going to make a huge difference.”

Vice President Mike Pence and Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill also addressed the crowd.
