Two Explosives Found In Mishawaka

Elkhart Police Department

A construction crew in Mishawaka found two pipe bombs this morning near Grape Road and Indian Ridge Boulevard. Authorities arrived to dispose of the devices. No injuries were reported.

The entire incident lasted about two hours. The South Bend Police Bomb Squad was on hand to detonate the devices, which have been identified as pipe bombs.

Authorities blocked off traffic and evacuated people from the area shortly after 9 a.m. Roads reopened around 11 a.m.

Mishawaka Police are still investigating the case.

The incident follows the discovery last week of a pipe bomb in Elkhart County and two other explosive devices in Marshall County.

Captain Jim Bradbury with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s department said authorities are still investigating last week’s incidents as well.

He said it’s too early to know whether there’s any connection or whether any of the devices are similar.

Bradbury said different departments in the area are collaborating on the investigations.
