Amish Acres To Close

Amish Acres in Nappanee will close after the fireworks on New Years Eve.

The property has been run by the Pletcher family for more than 50 years.

The family is retiring.

The original homestead and other historic buildings on the property were sold to Nappanee Power from the Past antique tractor club in 2018. That part of the property will continue to function as it has.

Nappanee Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeff Kitson says the decision was made by the family. “People don’t need to panic. This is a retirement.”

He says Amish Acres has served the community well.

If a buyer is not found before then, the property will go to auction in the spring.

Kitson says the chamber will step up to assist any Amish Acres employees that need help finding new jobs.

The Nappanee site includes a bakery, meat and cheese shop, arts and crafts boutiques, a theater for stage plays, an inn with 62 guest rooms and a restaurant featuring traditional Amish cooking. Kitson says more than 5 million people have visited.
