BREAKING NEWS: Deadly Shooting In South Bend

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred overnight.

Here are the details that have been released so far: 

 
At approximately 12:12 a.m. this morning, April 24th, South Bend Police Department
(SBPD) officers initiated a response to the area of LaSalle Ave and Eddy St. after hearing
gunshots in the area. Officers did not locate any gunshot victims in the area but found
evidence that gunfire occurred. Shortly thereafter, officers checking at Memorial
Hospital for potential gunshot victims discovered one victim arriving at the hospital for
treatment.


The South Bend Police Department conducted the initial shooting investigation and the
victim was taken for treatment/surgery. The victim did not survive his injuries and was
pronounced deceased a couple of hours later. A representative of the St. Joseph County
Coroner Office was contacted and per protocol, the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide
Unit (CMHU) was activated and is currently handling the investigation.


The victim has been identified as Deundre Lamar Hawkins, 25 years of age, and his family has been notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, April 27th, in Fort Wayne. Once the examination is completed, results of the autopsy will be shared with the media.


Several witnesses have been interviewed by CMHU Investigators. There is no suspect
