Cass County Ski Resort Stays Open Despite Record High Temperatures

The region is experiencing record breaking warm temperatures this week. Here's how one local ski resort is handling the unseasonably warm weather.

Swiss Valley in Jones, Michigan is staying open despite the high temperatures.

Jamie Stafne works at the ski and snowboard area. She said they made a hefty amount of snow when it was colder to prepare for these warmer days.

“Our hills are still very white, very skiable. There’s lots of families out there enjoying the skiing and snowboarding in this type of weather.”

Stafne also explained something called the “windowsill factor,” - If people= don’t see snow on their windowsill, they assume there’s no snow at the resort. But Stafne said not to worry.

“Like I said, we make our own snow. People should just get out here to ‘ski’ it to believe it.”

Swiss Valley is not expecting any closures due to warm temperatures.
