After last week’s subzero temperatures and a swing that starts this week near fifty above zero, some local emergency management officials are worried about flooding.
Fast thawing, potential rainfall and ice floes in rivers diverting water could cause some flooding in prone areas. Officials are not concerned that this will be as bad as flooding that happened last February.
Several self-serve sand bag operations have been set up in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties. Residents concerned about potential flooding can use the sandbags to help mitigate problems.
Residents are also asked to check that storm drains on their street are clear and that sump pumps are operational before any problems arise.
