Early Morning Shooting Leaves Young Woman Dead In South Bend, Metro Homicide Investigates

The St. Joseph Co. Metro Homicide Commander has released the following information about an early morning fatal shooting.

At 2:26 am today, the Saint Joseph County dispatch Center received a 911 call from the clerk working at the Phillips 66 gas station located at LaSalle and Lafayette reference a large fight in the parking lot. As dispatch was speaking to the clerk, the call taker began to hear gunfire in the background. South Bend officers were immediately sent to the gas station. Once they arrived, they located only a few individuals left at the scene as everyone had fled the area once the  gunfire started.

Officers located a female victim who appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound. South Bend Fire Dept. medics arrived and transported her to Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. We are currently interviewing several witnesses and asking for the public’s assistance in solving this murder. We ask that those who were at the gas station prior to the shots being fired to contact Metro Homicide if they have any information that could help with our investigation. No arrests have been made at this point.
