The Kiwanis Club of Elkhart is hosting a debate next week for the city’s mayoral candidates.

The two candidates, Republican Dave Miller and Democrat Rod Roberson, will face each other in a debate moderated by local journalist Marshall King.

Chris Pottratz is the Vice President of the Elkhart Kiwanis Club. He said the club has never hosted a mayoral debate before, but the group  wanted to get involved.

“It’s something that I think is important for us as Kiwanians and for the community at large to have the opportunity to hear what the candidates have to say and what their ideas are and let everyone make an informed choice of who they want to be their next mayor.”

Pottratz says candidates will be asked about affordable housing, the economy, the Tolson Center, kids in the community and other topics.

The debate is open to the public. It’s Tuesday, September 10th at the Matterhorn Conference Center starting at noon.

Municipal elections in Indiana are on November 5th.
