First Latino On Goshen City Council

https://www.goshen.edu/employee-directory/

The City of Goshen will have its first ever Latino city council member come January.

Gilberto Perez Jr. ran for Goshen City Council unopposed in November.

He campaigned on three main ideas - strengthening relationships in the community, finding more ways to support young people in Goshen, and creating more opportunities for minority businesses.

Perez said the growing Latino community in Goshen should be represented in leadership roles.

“With my being on city council as a Latino, bilingual, bicultural, being able to understand better the needs of that population, in terms of how we support what needs to be done in order to make sure it’s a more welcoming community.”

Perezalso said he hopes to be the voice for issues that are important to the Latino community.

Perez will be the council member for the 5th District.
