Flint's history and tragedy on display in new water crisis film

Flint: The Poisoning of an American City press kit

Listen to the conversation.

Flint was once a city of prosperity and thriving industry. Its successes were touted as an example for other U.S. cities. An old promotional film celebrating Flint's achievements in business and public education, summed it up this way:

“What happened here is now happening in other places. It could happen in any city in the United States. It did happen in the city of Flint.”

Today, that thought takes on new meaning through the lens of the city’s water crisis. That shift is the focus of the new documentary “Flint: The Poisoning of an American City.”

Michigan Radio's Morning Edition host Doug Tribou spoke with David Barnhart, the writer and director of the film, and Pastor Greg Timmons of Calvary United Methodist Church in Flint.

The film debuts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Capitol Theatre in Flint.
