GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — Goshen is voicing a commitment to reducing carbon emissions, increasing energy efficiency and boosting the use of renewable energy.

The Goshen City Council voted Tuesday to approve a resolution that seeks to encourage more environmentally conscious actions and build up the city's resiliency to climate change.

The goals include achieving carbon neutrality by 2035, penning an emissions management plan and increasing the city's tree canopy to 45% by 2045. The city also will pursue greenhouse gas assessment and storm water management programs, implement a climate action plan and create a city office of sustainability.

The resolution is non-binding.
The resolution was brought to the council by the council's youth adviser, Felix Perez-Diener, and members of the Goshen High School Youth Caucus.
