Groups host debates for County Sheriff at IUSB

 

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings the candidates for Sheriff in Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties will debate at IU South Bend.

The candidates for St. Joseph County sheriff will debate Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Weikamp Hall at IUSB, those for Elkhart County sheriff will debate at 6:30 on Wednesday evening at the IUSB Elkhart Center.

These debates  and several others as well as meet the candidates forums are hosted by the local American Democracy Project and League of Women Voters.

Elizabeth Bennion holds leadership positions in both organizations. She said for sheriff lots of issues like immigration and school safety hit close to home.

“Sometimes people don’t realize that these national debates they see in national media headlines are actually issues and debates being carried out at a real practical level here at home.”

The debates are open to the public and will be broadcast on My Michiana (channel 15 on Comcast and 69 on others) and livestreamed on Facebook.

There are debates for the 2nd congressional district primary, and for Elkhart County prosecutor scheduled for March 27 and April 10, respectively.
