Heavy Rains Expected To Cause Potential Flooding In Michiana

JENNIFER WEINGART

Weather experts say heavy rains expected to start Friday night could cause flooding across Michiana.

Three to five inches of rainfall is expected over the weekend with most falling late Friday night and Saturday.

Brentley Lothamer is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana. He said the total amount of rain could be slightly lower than originally thought, but there’s still a flood threat.

“We’re expecting a lot of moderate flooding, maybe some major flooding across the area, flash flooding.”

He said it’s best to play it safe and take precautions.

“It does not take that much water to knock you off your feet or to move vehicles. If you see any flooded roadways, do not attempt to drive through it. We always tell people turn around, don’t drown.”

Lothamer said it’s nearly impossible to tell how deep the water is and if there’s even still road underneath.
