Humane Society Of St. Joseph Co. Closing Animal Adoption Center As Part Of COVID-19 Response

The Humane Society of St. Joseph County has announced that the adoption center is closed until further notice.

Here is more information from the organization:

We will still be operating during normal business hours for Animal Control services (Monday-Saturday 8:30am-5:30pm and after-hours emergencies in the evenings and on Sundays).

Animal Control Officers have been instructed to dedicate their workload to high priority/emergency services and to postpone low-priority calls for service until further notice. This means, our ACOs will continue to respond to calls for sick/injured/aggressive animals, bite cases, cruelty and neglect complaints, and assisting local law enforcement when needed. We will be managing other low-priority calls for service by mediating issues over the phone, sending notices via the mail, or postponing until the National Animal Care and Control Association recommends we return to normal service protocols.

Our Adoption Center will remain closed until further notice. We will still continue to do adoptions but potential adopters will only be allowed to visit the shelter via a specific appointment time. We are also asking that volunteers do not visit unless they have been approved via the Humane Society leadership team. This will hopefully reduced the number of visitors to our shelter in an effort to keep our staff healthy.

Any and all updates relating to our organization will be posted on our website at http://humanesocietystjc.org/.
