A jury has found a former Michigan State University dean guilty of a felony and two misdemeanors. William Strampel was dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine for more than a decade. The jury found that he used his position to try and get sexual favors from female students.
But Strampel was found not guilty of the most serious charge against him: second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
“The jury saw through a lot of allegations that fell flat,” said his attorney, John Dakmak.
The jury also found Strampel guilty of two misdemeanors. He was convicted of willful neglect of duty for not properly overseeing Larry Nassar after a 2014 internal investigation. Nassar is the former MSU sports doctor who sexually assaulted his patients for decades.
Strampel is scheduled to be sentenced at the end of July.
