Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan is finishing up construction on an outdoor sculpture community.

Construction has been going on all summer to redo the outdoor space around the gallery for an outdoor venue on the bluff in St. Joe.

Executive Director Julia Gourley says the goal behind the project is to create a public space for gatherings.

“This whole project was really inspired by a desire to make the Krasl Art Center’s grounds a space for people to connect and gather and make memories and a place for people to be on their own terms.”

The space features a recently installed Richard Hunt sculpture, Lotus the Hippo, and a fire feature that will be permanent. Along with temporary sculpture exhibitions that will be programmed like other gallery shows. And outdoor seating.

A community event to officially open the space is scheduled for Saturday evening starting at seven.
