The LaPorte County GOP party chair, Mitch Feikes, confirms to WVPE that the Democratic incumbent mayor of Michigan City, Ron Meer, did not win his bid to be reelected. Meer has been at the center of controversy after the top brass of the city's police department resigned. That was followed by multiple subsequent media reports that Meer is facing felony charges.

Republican candidate Duane Parry had the most votes in the Michigan City mayor's race according to unofficial totals tabulated in LaPorte County Tuesday night. He will be the first GOP mayor of Michigan City since the mid-1970's.
