Michigan communities to hold local elections Tuesday

Many Michiganders will have the opportunity to go to the polls tomorrow to cast a ballot in local elections.

While there are no big national, or statewide elections this November, many local taxes, councils and projects are on ballots across Michigan.

Lakeshore Public Schools has two issues on the ballot. A renewal of an operating millage for non-homestead properties and a replacement to a bond millage for 1997 that runs out this year.

Superintendent Phil Freeman says replacing the bond is particularly important for the school district.

“This will let us complete the work that we saw that was necessary in 2012 and to be able to continue to have safe, secure energy efficient buildings and also to provide the best learning environment for our students.”

On the Ballot:

Berrien County:

Benton Harbor City-Income tax measure, city commission

Chikaming Township-Roads millage

Lakeshore Schools-Bond replacement, millage renewal

St. Joseph City-City commission

Cass County:

Dowagiac City-City Council

St. Joseph County:
