Michigan lawmakers look at different tactic to battle opioid epidemic

Tuesday, state lawmakers will considera package of bills aimed at reducing Michigan’s growing problems with prescription painkillers.

Opioids, like hydrocodone and oxycodone, are commonly prescribed for pain management.

But Michigan, like other states, has seen an increasing problem with opioid addiction and fatal overdoses.

The state of Michigan has madeseveral efforts to reduce the problem.

This week, the state Senate Health Policy committee will look at the doctors who prescribe opioids to their patients. The legislation would direct doctors to educate patients about the potential dangers of opioidsand limits on how much can be prescribed.
