More Than 100 Rally For Impeachment In Downtown Indianapolis

Lauren Chapman/IPB News

More than 100 people gathered on the steps of the Indiana Statehouse Tuesday to call on Congress to impeach President Donald Trump.

The U.S. House is expected to vote on impeachment Wednesday.

Few of those who addressed the crowd referenced the specific impeachment charges against Trump. But they were united in their ultimate message. Here’s Hoosier college student Christian Omoruyi.

“It’s time to close one of the most shameful and embarrassing chapters in American history," Omoruyi says. "Impeach and remove!”

But others, like Kathy Robertson, say impeachment isn’t enough.

“He needs to be prosecuted; he needs to be locked up in jail," Robertson says. "Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!”

Trump responded to the impending vote Tuesday with a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). In the six-page screed, he calls impeachment an “illegal, partisan attempted coup” and says Democrats have declared “open war on American Democracy.”
