New Buffalo Earns Grant To Improve Beaches

New Buffalo earned a federal grant to improve its beaches for the growing number of tourists that visit each summer.

The City has $51,000 to create a master plan for New Buffalo beaches.

Community members will decide what they want and the City will need additional money to make it happen.

Some possibilities include larger parking lots, new bathhouses, or a sea wall.

Public meetings will begin after Labor Day.

City Manager Dave Richards said improving the beaches is beneficial to both locals and visitors.

“The beach is an integral part of the community and tourism is the major driving economic factor in New Buffalo. This beach is, I believe, paramount to the future of New Buffalo,” Richards said.

Abonmarche, the City’s Engineer of Record, applied for the grant on New Buffalo's behalf.

Once the community decides, Abonmarche will conduct preliminary engineering to determine how much
the projects will cost.
