DTE Energy's Pine River wind park became operational this week. The utility now has 14 wind parks and 31 solar projects in Michigan.

Dave Harwood is with DTE. He says Pine River is the latest addition to DTE's renewable energy porftolio. "Here in Michigan we're doing our part to transition our generating fleet from fossil fuels to renewable sources," says Harwood.

The new wind park is located in Gratiot and Isabella counties. Harwood says its turbines are visible from US-127 between Alma and Mount Pleasant.

Pine River is the largest operating wind park in Michigan. It has 65 turbines and will produce enough clean energy to power more than 54,000 homes. According to DTE, the park will offset 300,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, the equivalent of taking 63,000 cars off the road.

DTE is investing in wind parks and solar energy as part of its goal to reduce carbon emissions by more than eighty percent by 2050. More information about that initiative is available at Journeyto80.com.

DTE is a corporate sponsor of Michigan Radio.
