Notre Dame President Releases Video Statement to Campus Community

University of Notre Dame President Father John Jenkins released a video statement to the campus community overnight on Sunday.

The University is closed this week. The extension of spring break was made to allow professors time to move classes online. Those courses will begin Monday, March 23rd.

“You are the most tech-savvy generation in history," Jenkins says in the video. "You are adaptable, creative and resilient. Even though you may be away from campus, use this valuable time to learn, albeit distantly.”

Jenkins addressed all groups of the campus community, particularly calling out 2020 graduating seniors. He said the University has not yet made a decision on whether spring graduation ceremonies will happen as usual.

He encouraged the community to come together virtually and spiritually to support each other.

“We will keep a candle burning for you at the Grotto until you return. Let us support one another. Notre Dame is still a community even when we are far apart. ”

Classes at Notre Dame are scheduled to be online at least through April 13th.
