Notre Dame Seniors Write Song About History Of The 'Fighting Irish'

WVPE News

Two University of Notre Dame seniors wrote a new song embracing the history behind the nickname the “Fighting Irish.”

The Song is called “The Fighting Irish (of Notre Dame y’all).” The term “Fighting Irish” was originally intended as a slur but this song is about how the University turned the phrase into a badge of pride.

Teagan Earley and Jay Rivera-Herrans are both seniors at Notre Dame majoring in Theatre. It took them a few months to write the song.

Earley said she hopes the song helps unify the campus.

“Part of that unity is recognizing that there’s no certain way that a Notre Dame student or a Notre Dame fan should look. I think that's a really important message that our song in particular highlights.”

Rivera-Herrans created the lyrics and music and Early adds her singing.
