A 22-year-old Chicago man is dead after crashing this morning on I-80/90.
The man who died is identified by Indiana State Police as James J. Ariel. He was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu (pictured) at the time of the crash.
It happened at the entrance ramp from I-65 north bound to where the Toll Road merges to I-80/90 west bound. First responders were unable to gain entry into the car due to the intense fire.
Once firefighters arrived, a trooper and fireman were able to break out the driver’s side window and pull the subject out. Troopers immediately started first aid but could not revive Ariel. It is unknown what caused the driver to go off the ramp into the ditch.
