Purdue University Monday suspended 14 students who attended a party in a residence hall Saturday night, 13 of whom were identified as student-athletes.
The school’s Code of Conduct penalizes students who violate the Protect Purdue Pledge -- which calls for mask wearing and social distancing -- at on- or off-campus gatherings.
The athletics program said in a statement that the party involved “out of season” student-athletes and that it was working with the university, calling the incident “unfortunate.”
In a statement, Purdue President Mitch Daniels said: “The fact that this episode involved student-athletes can make no difference. At Purdue, we have one set of rules for everyone.”
Previously, Purdue suspended 36 students for violating Protect Purdue Pledge guidelines while attending a party the week before school began in August.
