The National Weather Service says snow is expected throughout Michigan this weekend. Cue the exasperated sighs of Michiganders everywhere.
The bulk of the snow will be hitting the southern half of the state Saturday night, while the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula are forecasted to remain relatively unscathed.
This is not welcome news for most Michiganders, to say the least. It's spring! The Tigers are playing, Oberon is back on tap, and May is just around the corner.
Unfortunately, snow in April is fairly common for Michigan, a state notorious for its weather mood-swings. The average April snowfall from 1930 to 2010 ranged from 0.6 inches in Dearborn to a whopping 11.4 inches in Ironwood.
A returning winter isn't exclusive to April, either. On May 9, 1923, it snowed six inches in Detroit. Most recently, it snowed in May in 2005.
Luckily, very little accumulation is expected this weekend, since daytime temperatures will hover around the low 50s.
So get your coats back out for now, but take heart that we'll all be complaining about the heat in no time.
