Congratulations go out to WVPE's Jennifer Weingart and Justin Hicks who were recently honored for their broadcast reporting work.
Justin won First Place in the Society of Professional Journalists' Radio Feature Story category for How Two Gunshots Sparked Outrage In South Bend.The contest judges said, "This story provides the context and background of a major police shooting in the South Bend community - an incident that impacted the national political scene."
Jennifer picked up two SPJ awards. She took Second Place in the Radio Sports Reporting category for her story on the final football game between Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial prior to the schools merging. The piece was entitled Full of Nostalgia but Looking Ahead: Final Mangy Lion Game Brings Out Elkhart. She also was honored with Second Place in the Radio Continuing Coverage category for her body of work in Following Mayor Pete. This includes her political reporting for not only WVPEbut also for NPR.
