South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg Gives Farewell Address In His Role As The City's Leader

Justin Hicks

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg attended his final Common Council meeting as mayor Monday night.

People packed into the South Bend Common Council room to watch Buttigieg give his farewell address.

In his speech, he highlighted what he considers successes for the City - like affordable housing projects, an increase in jobs, and the growing population.

“The one thing that I know with absolute certainty is the truth of the words I had the great privilege to say to thousands of our fellow residents that day we marked our 150th year as a city, South Bend is back.”

Buttigieg encouraged residents to support incoming mayor Democrat James Mueller.

Mueller will take over as South Bend mayor in January.
