South Bend Police Department To Host National Night Out Against Crime

South Bend Police Department

Community members can join the South Bend Police Department Tuesday night for the annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The SBPD hosts multiple events for the community throughout the year.

The Night Out Against Crime allows South Bend residents to meet SPBD’s SWAT team, and K-9 and Bomb units. There will also be tables with safety information from police, fire, and other departments.

Ken Garcia, the department spokesperson, said their goal is to build positive relationships between citizens and the police.

“The police department cannot reduce crime by itself. It does need help from everybody in the community, mostly because the police department cannot be in every location at every moment and that’s why the community is so important,” Garcia said.

Nearly 38 million people and more than 16,000 communities across the country participate in National Night Out Against Crime every August.

The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Bend Police Department on West Sample Street.
