The city of South Bend is offering amnesty for additional fees on parking tickets on Friday.
This mean all late fees are waived for one day only.
South Bend has been doing parking amnesty day for a few years. It gives people with late fees on parking tickets a chance to save a little money, and the city a chance to make some money off tickets that may never have been paid otherwise.
City Clerk Kareemah Fowler said the idea is not to deter people from coming downtown.
“Parking is tight. We want individuals to come downtown and do business. So we want to put mechanisms in place to help with that.”
Fowler said parking amnesty day is a chance for people to clear the slate. Last year more than 450 tickets were paid on amnesty day. Fowler said she hopes more will come in this year.
Parking tickets can be paid in person at the city-county building or on the city website.
