St. Joe Public Safety to Hold Violence Prevention Training

The St. Joseph Michigan Public Safety Department is running a public training Wednesday night to teach people how to prevent and react to workplace violence including active shooter situations.

The training is tailored to small businesses, with a heavy emphasis on prevention.

Director of Public Safety Brian Uridge said the idea is to teach people to look for pre-incident indicators.

“Our goal is to hopefully teach people that as much as response it important, we need to look at getting our employees and our family members help prior to this ever escalating.”

Uridge said the class will mostly be a lecture about prevention, de-escalation and warning signs, followed by hands on active shooter scenarios.

He said the lecture will be based on scientific research on workplace violence situations.

The training is at Shadowland on Silver Beach starting at 6. It’s limited to 100 people and reservations are required. Uridge said the reaction has been so positive they are planning on holding the training again.
