St. Joseph County Extends Face Mask Order

Monday the St. Joseph County Health Department in Indiana announced an extension of the county's face mask order.

St. Joseph County, Indiana’s Health Department extended the county’s face mask mandate until at least Labor Day, September 7th.

The mask order was originally set to expire this Friday. Deputy Health Officer Mark Fox says the decision to extend the order was made in part because he says face masks have contributed to keeping the coronavirus under control in St. Joseph County.

“We have a relatively small number of tools in our tool kit in response to the pandemic and we think [face masks] have proven to be beneficial and it’s a modest imposition on people.”

Fox says it’s possible the mask order will be extended again past September 7th.

He says case numbers have been growing as restrictions in Indiana ease and he would like to see Governor Holcomb issue a state-wide mask mandate.
