St. Joseph County Fights Drug Abuse With Pill Drop Boxes

Annnacaroline Caruso/WVPE News

St. Joseph County is adopting a program that’s meant to stop prescription medication from ending up in the wrong hands.

The program is called Drop 2 Stop. The County is partnering with the 525 Foundation to place medication disposal drop boxes around the community.

The way the boxes work is people drop-off any expired or unwanted prescription medication. The local DEA will check the boxes and dispose of the drugs properly.

Sheriff Bill Redman hopes the drop boxes prevent drug misuse.

“We want to try and do whatever we can to be more proactive to make sure these drugs don’t end up in the wrong hands. Either people selling drugs on the street or possibly teenagers getting a hold of them.”

The newest drop box is at the St. Joseph County Jail. This makes a total of 11 boxes around the County so far.
