St. Joseph County Public Library Reopens With Some Restrictions

The St. Joseph County, Indiana Public Library branches reopened this week for the first time since March. Some changes are in place to limit the risk of exposure to the coronavirus.

All St. Joseph County Public Library branches are officially reopened but with some restrictions in place.

The number of people allowed in a library at one time is limited.

Library Spokesperson Jennifer Henecke says the biggest change is less community seating inside the library to discourage people from sticking around after they’ve gotten their books.

“At the moment, this is really looking like a grab and go service for coming in and getting the books you need,” she says.

People will be able to check out books, pick up holds, use the fax machines, and have limited computer access.

Henecke says St. Joseph County Public Libraries have seen a steady turnout since reopening.
“Reopening yesterday was a step in making sure people that need to get into the library, fax something, use the computer to apply for a job, or look up something for school, those resources are available.”

Curbside pick-up services are continuing at the library for those who don’t feel comfortable going inside.
