Annacaroline Caruso

UPDATE:

South Bend fire officials report that the fire is now out at the site of Sunday's industrial blaze. There were hot spots that had to be put out as recently as 6am Monday. Now investigators are on scene looking for information on what caused the fire in the first place.

ORIGINAL POST:

South Bend firefighters battled a fire Sunday evening at an industrial site on the City’s southwest side at the corner of Calvert and Franklin streets.

South Bend Fire Department Assistant Chief John Corthier said the fire started on the north side of the building. After that collapsed, the fire spread to the rest of the building.

He expects they will be fighting the fire for most of Sunday night.

Corthier says one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion but there were no other injuries.

He says the warehouse was filled with some cars and tires.

Officials did not say how the fire was started.
