UPDATE: Man Arrested After Woman Is Found Dead In South Bend Sunday

UPDATE:

Today news of an arrest was made public following the weekend discovery of a woman who had been stabbed to death in South Bend. 

According to charging documents, the suspect had a history of domestic violence with the victim a "No Contact" order was in place.

St. Joseph County –Today the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Richard Lee Alexander, 53, in connection with the September 13, 2020, stabbing death of Catherine Minix. Ms. Minix’ body was found in the 900 block of Fairview, South Bend.

He is charged with Murder, a Felony, and Invasion of Privacy, a Class A Misdemeanor. Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant issued. Defendant was ordered held without bond. He was arrested on September 14, 2020, on an outstanding warrant and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail.

His initial hearing and arraignment are scheduled for tomorrow, September 18th, at 1:00 p.m.

The sentencing range for Murder is 45 to 65 years. The sentencing range for a Class A Misdemeanor is up to 1 year.
 

Please be advised that the charges filed against this defendant are merely accusations and that he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

This morning 9/13/20 at approximately 5:19am the communications center received an anonymous call asking for police to check the address of 925 E. Fairview for a woman who needed help. South Bend police officers responded and arrived on scene to find a female lying dead in the grass between two homes. The scene was quickly secured and Metro Homicide was dispatched. CMHU arrived and determined the deceased woman had suffered physical trauma however no details regarding her injuries will be released at this time until the autopsy is completed tomorrow morning.   

We have identified the victim as: CATHERINE MINIX F/W 37

We have determined that the victim’s home is located at 930 E. Victoria St. We are currently conducting our crime scene investigation at the victim’s home and the immediate area where she was found.

We are also interviewing persons known to the victim and have developed a person of interest in this homicide investigation. No arrests have been made as of this release.
