UPDATE: Semi Hauling 41,000 Pounds Of Honey Rolls Over On Toll Road

Indiana State Police

THE LATEST: All lanes now open again.

NEW:

Indiana State Police have opened another lane of traffic east bound on I-80/94 at Calumet Avenue.  But the two left lanes are still closed and will be closed for an undetermined time as the Indiana Department of Transportation is on scene containing the honey/diesel fuel spill, cleaning-up the roadway, and will need to inspect the road before they can safely reopen all lanes.

Traffic has been impacted in both directions and it is highly recommended that you find alternate routes.  Expect long delays and back-ups in this area.

ORIGINAL POST:

According to the Indiana State Police, the three left lanes are closed east bound on I-80/94 at Calumet Avenue.

A semi hauling containers of “Amber Honey” lost control and rolled over.

The semi was hauling 41,000 pounds of the honey.

Five of these containers came out of the box trailer and there are still eight inside, at least four of these containers are leaking.

The driver also stated he had just fueled up and the semi is not only leaking the honey but diesel fuel.  The semi driver was not injured.

Police sa traffic will be impacted in both directions.  Back-ups and delays are already occuring.  Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.  Police say this may be an extended clean-up and closure.  The west bound traffic back-up and delays are because of “gawkers” according to police.
