Less than two hours after the polls closed in Elkhart, history was made. Democrat Rod Roberson learned that his mayoral opponent, Republican Dave Miller had conceded the election. Roberson is a former Elkhart council member who now becomes the city's first black mayor.

During his victory speech, Roberson told the crowd, "It's about how well we serve you...this is not about me. This is about you."
Roberson acknowledged Elkhart's current mayor, Republican Tim Neese, who did not seek reelection. "I appreciate your leadership and where our city is," Roberson said.
