Writing Workshop In South Bend Designed For Students With Autism

Dave Griffith

A writing workshop in South Bend Saturday morning is designed specifically for kids on the autism spectrum.

Write Differently is a creative writing workshop catered to students with autism in grades three through 12.

The writing prompts include a lot of character building which encourages social development - something people on the autism spectrum often struggle with.

The workshop is also in a quiet room to help the students focus.

Dave Griffith has taught creative writing for almost 20 years and started Write Differently in July.

He said there’s a lot of people who are diagnosed with autism but not a lot of opportunities for them.
“We often in the neurotypical world don’t really have an appreciation for how gifted young people on the spectrum are. The gifts they have are incredible and not often well understood,” Griffith said.

The workshops are at the LangLab in South Bend twice a month.
