The Indiana State Department of Health updated its COVID-19 school dashboard data this week, and according to the new numbers, two Elkhart County high schools have the highest student case counts in the state.

Elkhart Community Schools officially broke ground Thursday on a new building that will house engineering and technical education classes.

When the district’s two high schools merge next school year students will choose an area of study. The new building will have classrooms and labs for students in the Engineering, Technology and Innovation, or ETI, track.

Friday Night the Elkhart Central High School Blue Blazers won the final rivalry game against Elkhart Memorial for the coveted Mangy Lion trophy. 

The stadium at Elkhart Central High School was packed with spectators for the final game between the city’s rival football teams. Next year the high schools will merge.

For those who remember, the merger is really going back to the way things were nearly 50 years ago.

Thursday is the first day back to school for students in Elkhart. This is the last year high schoolers will belong to different schools. 

 

Next year, students coming back will go to either the Memorial or Central campus of Elkhart High School. Sports teams and music ensembles will be unified. The class of 2021 will hold Elkhart High School diplomas.
