INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has directed flags across Indiana to be flown at half-staff in honor of former U.S. Sen. Birch Bayh, who died Thursday at age 91.
 
Holcomb said in a statement that flags should be lowered to half-staff from now until sunset on the day of Bayh's funeral, which has not yet been announced.
 
The governor also asked Indiana businesses and residents to lower their flags to honor Bayh, calling him "a trailblazer who dedicated himself to improving the lives of all Hoosiers."
 

An environmental group says the state needs more staff to oversee drinking water protections in Indiana.  The Hoosier Environmental Council says the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has suffered a decade of budget cuts.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb was in Mishawaka today at the new SF Motors plant.

SF Motors is a Chinese company that makes electric vehicles. It's headquartered in Santa Clara, California, but will be building cars for the U.S. market in the Mishawaka plant it calls EVAP (Electric Vehicle Assembly Plant).

 

SF Motors is currently in the process of updated the former AM General Plant in Mishawaka that used to make the Hummer and Mercedes-Benz.

Gov. Holcomb Announces Rail Safety Program

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb was in Chesterton yesterday to unveil new details for the Local Trax Rail Overpass Program.
 

The new program stems from the Next Level Roads plan. It’s aimed at both decreasing traffic congestion and increasing safety around railroads.

Governor Holcomb said at least $125 million dollars will be available in matching state funds for local communities that apply for the grant.

Governor Unveils 2018 Next Level Agenda

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb visited the Ethos Science Center in Elkhart today to outline his priorities for the upcoming legislative session. The 2018 Next Level Agenda is the Governor’s plan to help build Indiana’s workforce.
 

One of the governor’s top priorities is to fill  more well paying and in demand jobs across the state. He said there’s about 92,000 jobs that are unfilled in the state alone, and about 29,000 more in the works that could remain unfilled if the state doesn’t address jobs training.
